ARTS COUNCIL COLLAGE: The Arts Council of Princeton will hold a dedication ceremony for the collage mural “A Princeton Mix,” by Nancy Shill, Thursday, June 6 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. outside of the council chambers at Witherspoon Hall, 400 Witherspoon Street, where the mural will be on long-term display. Ms. Shill, the Arts Council’s Spring 2013 Anne Reeves Artist in
Residence, created the work from materials found or collected in Princeton in honor of the town’s recent consolidation. Also on view will be collages by students who participated in

Each summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day, members of the serving military and their families receive a big thank you from museums across the country with free admission through the Blue Star Museums program, a collaboration between participating museums, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Blue Star military families organization, and the Department of Defense.

More than 1,800 museums across the nation take part in the program with new participants joining in all 50 states.

Several area museums have announced their participation in the program and will offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families this summer.

“Blue Star Museums is something that service members and their families look forward to every year and we are thrilled with the continued growth of the program,” says Blue Star Families CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet.

This year’s Blue Star Museums include fine arts, science, and history museums as well as nature centers, and 75 children’s museums in all 50 states, including more than 450 new museums this year.

Among this year’s new participants are the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, California; Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum in Northport, Michigan; the Totem Heritage Center in Ketchikan, Alaska; and the World Museum of Mining in Butte, Montana.

The free admission program includes all active duty U.S. military—Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and up to five family members.

Participating museums in the Princeton area include Princeton University Art Museum (which is always free for all members of the public), the James A. Michener Art Museum, Doylestown, Pa; The Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, New Brunswick; and Morven Museum and Garden, 55 Stockton Street.
