Historical Society Move to Updike Farm Could Be Significant Loss for Downtown
To the Editor:
The Historical Society of Princeton has announced its plan to move from Bainbridge House on Nassau Street to the Updike Farmstead on Quaker Road. The move to a much larger facility will certainly permit the Historical Society to expand its programs and activities.
But the move could be a significant loss for downtown Princeton. One can hope that within Bainbridge House (which is owned by the University), there could still be an interpretive exhibit that would describe the history of Bainbridge House as well as the three Princetons (Borough, Township, and the now united town of Princeton). Such an exhibit could be created and maintained by the Historical Society.
In this way, the Bainbridge House site would continue to be an important asset and a welcome attraction for the Princeton community and for the many visitors to downtown Princeton.
