Maximillian Hayden Architect, Inc. is the recipient of a 2014 New Jersey Historic Preservation Award for the James Van Zandt Mansion, which will house the future offices of SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals in Skillman.

The project was cited for its transformation from an abandoned building into usable office and meeting spaces for the animal shelter. Of particular note was the formidable task to restore the building, and the State Historic Preservation Office lauded SAVE for undertaking this endeavor. One of the requirements of the Montgomery Township Planning Board in order to use the property for the shelter included the restoration of the mansion.

Max Hayden, principal, has been an architect in the greater Princeton area since 1982, and he started his own firm in 1991. His work has appeared in Architectural Digest, This Old House, House Beautiful, New Jersey Monthly, and numerous other publications.
