“Cost Saving” Council’s “Self-Serving” Pay Increase “Out of Sync with Reality”
To the Editor
So, our recently consolidated, “cost saving” government has voted in favor of raises for themselves; 16 percent for the mayor, 33 percent for council members and 66 percent for the council president; somewhat out of sync with the real world. Not much of a surprise in a municipality with a single party government. Justifications: present levels are too low for the hours spent, yet we have had no shortage of qualified candidates anxious to run for these positions with the compensation as it was prior to this increase; seven people doing the work of twelve? The whole point of consolidation was to eliminate duplication! We are now ONE municipality! Seven administration positions to replace two governments with a total of twelve is at least one too many by my count. The goal of consolidation was to reduce duplication, waste and, thereby, reduce taxes. My taxes have gone up, even before this self-serving pay raise! Welcome to the “People’s Republic of Prince-ton.”
