Urging a “Yes” Vote on Public Question 2, Which Would Set Aside Funds for Open Space

To the Editor:

The great thing about New Jersey is that there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s a day at the beach, a visit to a museum, a bike ride along a winding trail or a delicious meal made with locally grown food, we have access to many of the best things life has to offer.

As voters, we have a responsibility to our children and grandchildren to ensure that they enjoy the same opportunities we do. That’s why we must vote ‘yes’ in November on Public Question 2, a measure that would set aside much needed state funds for open space, farmland, and historic preservation as well as other important environmental programs.

For over 50 years New Jersey voters have supported preservation programs like Green Acres, Blue Acres, farmland and historic preservation. That’s because we understand just how important it is to protect land, water, and historic sites that provide economic and environmental benefits and improve our quality of life.

As the current president of the Advocates for New Jersey History, a former chair of the D&R Greenway Land Trust, and former executive director of the Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area, I have worked for decades to protect and promote New Jersey’s open spaces and heritage. I urge you to join me on November 4 in voting for Public Question 2.

Those of us who have voted in favor of similar measures in the past and those who will support this historic ballot measure in November understand that we have an obligation to protect and preserve the land, water, and historic sites we hold dear not only for ourselves, but more importantly for the generations of New Jerseyans that will come after us.
