Princeton Photography Club Call for Submissions, Feb. 23
Princeton Photography Club (PPC) and the D&R Greenway Land Trust invite students to submit artful photographs of open space for their 2015 annual juried photography exhibition, “Naturescapes.”
The winning submissions will be exhibited in the Olivia Rainbow Gallery at D&R Greenway Land Trust, One Preservation Place, from April 6 through May 11, on business hours of business days.
The deadline for submissions, which are to be sent by email, is Monday, February 23. Digitally manipulated images are welcome, but not required. For full submission guidelines, visit: www.drgreenway.org.
Prizes totaling $500 will be awarded at the Wednesday, April 8, meeting of PPC at the D&R Greenway’s Johnson Education Center. The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m.
“PPC encourages young adults to move their concept of images out of their cell phones and web-based sites, printing their best for exhibition,” said Princeton Photography Club President Carl Geisler, explaining the group’s vision as they work each year with student photographers. “Our juried contests focus the upcoming generation upon the importance of open space. The exhibition, our prizes, and media attention encourage young people to value open space and rewards them with the experience of their own art in a recognized gallery. We encourage dual preservation — that of New Jersey land and the printed image, which otherwise would not survive to future generations.”
D&R Greenway CEO and President Linda Mead welcomes the Photography Club’s annual student juried show. “We are delighted that Princeton Photography Club extends its mission to include students, for our Olivia Rainbow Gallery. It’s thrilling to see the youngsters’ pictures, often dramatically extending the message of the importance of, and perils to open land.”
PPC meetings, seminars, photography lectures and/or workshops are held weekly, except in summer months, at D&R Greenway. The Olivia Rainbow Gallery presents sequential nature exhibitions by students. The works honor the natural world, in memory of Olivia Kuenne, who, even at four years old, was deeply committed to art and to nature.
Founded in 1982, PPC currently includes nearly 300 members, from beginners through professionals honing their skills. The club’s goal is to promote artistic excellence, while helping members enhance their expertise in photographic techniques. Membership also greatly expands members’ opportunities to exhibit in the tri-state area.
Speakers have included Amy Arbus, J. Seward Johnson, Ernestine Ruben, Larry Fink, Emmet Gowen, Stephen Perloff, Mary Louise Pierson, Jeff Rotman, and George Tice.
D&R Greenway Land Trust’s mission is to preserve and protect natural lands, farm lands and open spaces throughout central and southern New Jersey. They are celebrating their Silver Jubilee, having been founded in 1989 to conserve land around the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Approximately 19,000 acres, in seven New Jersey counties, remain open and open to the public in perpetuity. D&R Greenway maintains trails on most preserves, so people may enjoy a healthier and more diverse environment.
