Community Art Project at Morven

Morven

Volunteers are needed to join in a community art project building an airplane on the Great Lawn at Morven, which will open an exhibit, “Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh: Couple of an Age,” on November 13. Morven is located at 55 Stockton Street.

From Saturday, October 17 to Sunday, October 25, volunteers will work in shifts to build an interpretation of Charles Lindbergh’s plane, the Spirit of St. Louis.

This sculptural plane will be built out of wood, true to the dimensions of the actual plane except for the wing span which has been reduced for the safety of the rigging of the sculpture.

Chicago-based artist Bernard Williams will be leading the construction. Morven is looking for volunteers to fill 2½-hour shifts for one week, to assist with carpentry, painting and more. Volunteers are invited for one day or for the whole week if they like.

Shifts are 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 3 p.m. All skill levels are welcome, from beginner artists to expert carpenters. To sign up, email Pam Ruch at pruch@morven.org. The entire community is invited to a grand unveiling on Sunday, October 25 at 1 p.m.
