How to Help Those Displaced in Griggs Farm Fire That Took One Victim

A two-alarm fire that started Wednesday night, December 27, in a three-story apartment building at the Griggs Farm complex on Billie Ellis Lane, took the life of a 73-year-old woman and displaced 35 residents. Larisa Bartone, who lived in an apartment at 21 Billie Ellis Lane, died in the fire. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.

The Princeton Police Department, Princeton Fire Department, Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad, and multiple fire departments from the area responded to the scene. The American Red Cross and Princeton’s Human Services department are assisting the residents, some of whom spent Wednesday night at The Nassau Inn.

Griggs Farm provides affordable housing and is managed by Princeton Community Housing.

The Human Services department put together a list of things people can donate to help the victims. The list includes gift cards to local restaurants; three disposable mobile phones; warm clothing such as jackets, gloves, hats and scarves; toiletries; blankets; dog and cat food; snacks; and water. Donations can be dropped off at Trinity Church, 33 Mercer Street, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through January 6. To donate funds, visit gofundme.com and write “griggs farm” in the search category.
