“PROCESS: ART + SCIENCE”: Art from the John George Collection of Rube Goldberg, along with photography by Deborah Land, Jessi Oliano, and Andrew Wilkinson, will be featured October 18 through November 25 in the Considine Gallery at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart. An opening reception is Friday, October 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The fall gallery exhibition at Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, “Process: Art + Science,” will feature art from the John George Collection of Rube Goldberg and photography by Deborah Land, Jessi Oliano, and Andrew Wilkinson. The show takes inspiration from the 500th anniversary of Leonardo DaVinci’s death and the idea that interdisciplinary projects can create visionary alternatives and open new doors for understanding.

“Our exhibit is inspired by the development of artistic work created in the process of exploration,” said Gallery Director Andres Duque. “We are celebrating Leonardo DaVinci’s 500th anniversary and the roots that bring together the spirit of creation in art and science.”

The public is invited to view the art show, on display in Stuart’s Considine Gallery from October 18 through November 25. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, when school is in session.

An opening reception is Friday, October 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and a Gallery Talk with the artists is Tuesday, October 22 from 1 to 2 p.m. The public is welcome.

John George is a clinical psychologist living in Blawenburg. John’s grandfather, Rube Goldberg (1883-1970) was a world-renowned cartoonist who was best known for his “inventions” depicting highly complex and imaginative solutions to everyday tasks. “Rube Goldberg” has become an adjective in the Merriam-Webster dictionary: “accomplishing by complex means what seemingly could be done simply.” Rube was indeed ahead of his time. Seen from today’s perspective, these works are a poignant comment on the complexities of our present-day world. Reproductions of three of these inventions, from John’s collection of his grandfather’s work, will be displayed in this exhibition.

Deborah Land is a fine art photographer seeking to merge the beauty of the earth with the qualities of God’s revelations of His Spirit. She uses technology to create timeless images. She lives and works in the Princeton area.

Jessi Oliano is the #LEADLIKEAGIRL conference coordinator at Stuart and a professional photographer. She is also a priority adjunct professor in the Communications and Journalism Department at Rider University, where she focuses her instruction on graphic design and photography. Her knowledge in art and design comes from over 14 years of professional experience in the fields of graphic design, web design, and photography. She balanced classes with freelance work to graduate with honors in 2003, and again in 2006 with a master’s in marketing from Rider. She also operates her own business called Jessi Franko Designs, LLC.

Andrew Wilkinson is formally trained in both fine art and media communications, and combines both disciplines to create reconstructions of everyday objects into works of art that challenge even the most devoted perception. Wilkinson teaches photography and graphic design in the Upper School at Stuart. His work has been featured in galleries throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, and Arizona, as well as other venues overseas in Russia and Beijing.
