Katie Welsh at Rat’s With a Broadway Theme
CABARET WITH KATIE: Katie Welsh Brings “Cabaret Night” to Rat’s Restaurant in Hamilton on Thursday, February 27. Broadway musicals with a New York theme are her focus.
On Thursday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m., singer Katie Welsh will present Cabaret Night at Rat’s Restaurant: New York On Broadway at Rat’s Restaurant at Grounds for Sculpture. This is the first time Welsh’s “Cabaret Night,” familiar to Princeton audiences from her appearances at the Arts Council of Princeton, will be performed at Rat’s. Pianist David Pearl will be accompanist.
In this cabaret evening, Welsh explores the representation of New York City in Broadway musicals, with insights and songs from On the Town, Sweet Charity, Company, Follies, 42nd Street, Annie, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and more. Welsh considers how the characters sing about New York City. How do they feel in this city of strangers? How does the big city impact their relationships onstage?
A graduate of Princeton University, Welsh specializes in musical theater and the Great American Songbook. In addition to venues and private events in the Princeton area, Katie has also been seen in New York at Feinstein’s/54 Below, Don’t Tell Mama, The Duplex, the Metropolitan Room, BroadwayCon, and the Princeton Club of New York.
Tickets are $40 and are available online at ratsrestaurant.com/cabaret-night.
