Mr. Rogers’ Neighbors Kindness Project Is Caring for Princeton Community
To the Editor:
Recently, I had the opportunity to volunteer at Mr. Rogers’ Neighbors Kindness Project (MRNKP) free store at 190 Witherspoon St. – an ongoing project that has been caring for the Princeton community during COVID-19, particularly those in need.
During Monday, Wednesday, and Friday volunteer shifts I set up goods and distributed meals and daily necessities to our neighbors. These distributions have been made possible through donations from local businesses and community members. Clients, face-masked and physically distanced, wait patiently in the queue, and then express sincere thanks for these acts of kindness.
MRNKP is the brainchild of Blair Miller, founder and community organizer who, with Ross Wishnick and Brianna Silva, are filling a void in our community with an efficient, well-organized infrastructure of care. This team, supported by a cadre of hard-working volunteers, has engaged community members and local businesses to bring smiles and comfort to our neighbors in need. Meals (e.g. La Mezzaluna, Nomad Pizza, Princeton Soup and Sandwich), essential goods (e.g. McCaffrey’s, Whole Earth), and much needed distractions (e.g. Jazams, Labyrinth Books, Bent Spoon, Thomas Sweets) reflect a cohesive, caring community.
MRNKP represents the perfect antidote to an anonymous, uncaring pandemic. Blair Miller has created the counter-balance to COVID-19 through MRNKP. Under her knowledgeable, caring, and supportive leadership, volunteers and local businesses are providing ongoing comfort and care to all our neighbors during this time of need.
