“Origin of Wonder” on Display at Artists’ Gallery
“THE SEASONS CHANGE”: This painting by Bill Jersey is featured in “Origin of Wonder,” his joint exhibit with Laura Rutherford Renner, on view at the Artists’ Gallery in Lambertville May 6 through June 6.
Artists Bill Jersey and Laura Rutherford Renner have announced the opening of their joint show, “Origin of Wonder,” on Thursday, May 6 at the Artists’ Gallery, 18 Bridge Street, Lambertville. The exhibit, which runs through June 6, features oil paintings by the two artists. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no opening reception for this exhibition.
“Origin of Wonder” invites you to pause, to see, to remember the wonder of the world that the artists share with you.
Residing in Hunterdon County, Bill Jersey said, “I am surrounded by creeks, forests, fields, and hills — an abundance of scenes I want to capture or interpret on canvas. Over time, my paintings evolved from more realistic scenes of the natural world to more interpreted representations, using dramatic colors to evoke fresh perspectives. As a documentary filmmaker of many years, I learned to catch a moment in time and use it to tell a larger story. That is what I seek to capture in my paintings.”
“WAITING FOR A CONNECTION”: This work by Laura Rutherford Renner is featured in “Origin of Wonder,” her joint show with Bill Jersey, on view May 6 through June 6 at the Artists’ Gallery in Lambertville.
Laura Rutherford Renner, from Collingswood, enjoys painting figures engaged in the experience of their environments. “Capturing these interactions in two dimensions is an exercise and a source of calm,” she said. “I relish mixing pure colors, keeping my palette simple to create authentic observation. The quiet engagement of brush to palette and brush to board provides meaning for me every day.”
Rutherford Renner, an occupational therapist for the past 27 years, is currently working with young students in public school, aged 3-13 years old, on life skills and academic tasks.
Gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit lambertvillearts.com.
