HOLIDAY STROLL: Historic homes are decorated for this year’s “Holiday Walkabout” from 12- 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 4. This year’s event is all outdoors, featuring exterior decorations, peeks through the window at inside displays, and sidewalk hospitality areas featuring music, refreshments, and conversation.

The annual Mill Hill Holiday House Tour returns with an all outdoor “Holiday Walkabout” from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, in the historic downtown Trenton neighborhood.

This year’s house tour was reimagined to accommodate health safety concerns due to COVID-19, said Mill Hill Holiday House and Window Tour Co-Chair Terry West. “We didn’t want another year to pass without a holiday house tour, so we had to come up with a creative way to celebrate the holidays in our beautiful neighborhood.”

The event features a peek through the window at inside rooms facing the street, the exterior of the home, and, for some, an outside hospitality area where guests can relax, mingle, and enjoy refreshments. In addition, Santa will be on hand from 1 -3 pm to greet guests and pose for photographs at Artworks.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance through TrentonMillHill.org or the day of the tour at Artworks, 19 Everett Alley, where ample free parking is available.

The Mill Hill Holiday House Tour, first held in 1966, is Mill Hill’s signature event and a Trenton tradition. Approximately 20 homes in the neighborhood will display special decorations through their front windows and/or on their exteriors, with some homeowners inviting visitors to share holiday music, refreshments, and conversation on their stoops and sidewalks. Mill Hill boasts a variety of home architectural styles, sizes, and ages.

The tour is organized by the Old Mill Hill Society and the residents of Mill Hill. It has played an important role in the restoration of the neighborhood. Money raised by the tour funds historic preservation grants that assist Mill Hill home and business owners in maintaining the historic landmark standards that have helped make the neighborhood what it is today.
