“THE LAUNDRESS”: This quilt created by Lesyslie Rackard is part of “HerStory in Stitches,” an exhibition of quilts created by members of the Princeton Sankofa Stitchers Modern Quilt Guild, on display at the Princeton Public Library through March 30.

“HerStory in Stitches,” an exhibit of quilts created by members of the Princeton Sankofa Stitchers Modern Quilt Guild (PSSMQG), is now on display at the Princeton Public Library. A form of storytelling and capturing history, the quilts may be viewed in the Reading Room and other locations on the second floor of the library through March 30.

The PSSMQG was formed in 2015 by a group of African American women who began getting together casually to quilt and share information about the craft. As the group grew, they decided to formalize and become an official guild. Members of the group chose the name Sankofa Stitchers to reflect its identity as a group that worked with African and African American fabrics, designs, and cultural experiences.

Also on view at the library is “Wild Princeton: Photographs by Leigh Faden.” All of the photographs in the exhibit were taken in the Princeton area and reflect the vast diversity of the area’s wildlife. The exhibit is in the Technology Center through February 25.

“Wild Princeton” is part of the library’s commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Great Backyard Bird Count, an annual February event that brings people around the world together to watch, learn about, count, and celebrate birds. The library is joining the celebration with a variety of programs and activities to promote the discovery of New Jersey birds. More information is available at princetonlibrary.org/birdcount.
