Delaware Valley Bead Society Presents Niobium Workshop

The Delaware Valley Bead Society (DVBS) will sponsor a niobium workshop, “Resist Me If You Can,” with Marti Brown, founding member and president of the DVBS on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (allows time for lunch – BYO or order out) at the Raritan Township Police Station, Municipal Courtroom, at One Municipal Drive, Building #2, Flemington. Pre-registration is required; the registration deadline is Saturday, March 4.

Niobium is a non-reactive metal under normal conditions, but add a charge of electricity to a bowl of soapy water, insert a piece of niobium, and watch the magic as colors emerge. The colors that appear depend on the voltage chosen. Because it doesn’t react to acids or alkaline substances, niobium is hypoallergenic; this combined with its ease of shaping makes it a great metal for jewelry. If you prefer, bring your own pliers and wire cutters. The fee for the workshop itself is $55; the kit fee is $30.

To register for this workshop and reserve a kit, email your name, address, and phone number to odyssey5@ptd.net or call (908) 246-1231. To learn more about the Delaware Valley Bead Society, visit delawarevalleybeadsociety.org.
