Representatives from the Mercer County Nutrition Office will be at the center court, Trenton Farmers Market, adjacent to the Mercer County Extension Services Building on Spruce Street in Lawrence, on Wednesday, August 12, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to distribute Farmers Market vouchers to eligible senior residents, who will receive six $5 checks that are good until November 30. The program gives seniors the opportunity to receive fresh produce, stretch food budgets, and improve their nutrition. Documentation is required for certification, and income criteria must be met to be eligible to receive the vouchers. Single person income must be below $20,036, and a couple’s income must be below $26,599 per year. Recipients must be over 60-years-old, and may not pick up checks for anyone other than themselves. Checks must be signed in front of the farmers and may be used only at certified farm stands, not at grocery stores. Stands will display a yellow poster indicating that they accept these checks.
