Property tax due dates have been extended for both Princeton Borough and Princeton Township residents. The due date for receipt of payment of property taxes in Princeton Township has been extended from August 1 to August 15, with a 10-day grace period until August 24, after which interest dating back to August 1 will accrue. The payment deadline for residents in Princeton Borough has been extended to September 4. The deadlines have been extended because of state aid certification delays.
Kathleen Bowler, a former teacher and coach at the John Witherspoon Middle School, who pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, has received a four-year suspended sentence as the result of an incident that took place in January 2005. Ms. Bowler, 29, now living in Rhode Island, was a long-time substitute at JW where she taught a Modern Living class and coached boys' wrestling during the 2004-05 school year. At the sentencing hearing, Superior Court Judge Thomas Kelly ordered Ms. Bowler to forfeit her teaching license. She is also required to register as a sex offender under Megan's Law. The parents of the 13-year-old male student have filed an 80-page lawsuit against the Princeton Regional School District in federal court claiming district officials failed to act for 81 days after they were notified about the teacher's behavior. The suit alleges district officials failed to contact Princeton Township police or the Division of Youth and Family Services until June 21, 11 weeks after they were first told about Ms. Bowler's behavior. The Regional Planning Board of Princeton Thursday approved plans allowing Princeton University to build a new pedestrian bridge over Washington Road, connecting the areas currently housing the school's Carl C. Icahn Laboratory and Jadwin Hall, near the location for a proposed 248,000-square-foot chemistry building, also approved Thursday. The concrete bridge, with supporting steel arch structure and decorative stainless steel guardrails, will provide 17 feet, six inches, of clearance for vehicles along Washington Road. Noted Swiss engineer Christian Menn, in collaboration with HNTB, a New York-based architectural firm, is designing the bridge. The four-story chemistry building will be located on the site of the Armory south of Jadwin Hall. The University plans to demolish the Armory and remove most of the surrounding parking to make room for the masonry- and glass-clad lab. (MH)
