Trelstad and Howard Win in Borough; Township Reelects Miller and Nemeth

Democratic incumbents were the winners in both the Borough and Township elections.

The two available spots on Princeton Borough Council were won by Democrat Barbara Trelstad, who garnered 666 votes, and Heather Howard who received 691 votes. (Votes were unofficial at press time.)

Ms. Trelstad, who has been on Borough Council since 2005, has resided in the Borough since 1981. She has served on several local bodies, including the Princeton Environmental Committee and Sustainable Princeton.

Ms. Howard’s government experience includes serving as New Jersey Commissioner of Health and Senior Services and as Chief of Staff to Senator John Corzine. She was a Senior Policy Advisor for Hillary Clinton. She is vice-president of the Princeton Community Democratic Organization [PCDO].

Democratic incumbents Bernie Miller and Sue Nemeth were the winners in the race for two Princeton Township Committee seats, with 2,739 and 2,682 votes apiece. Republican challengers Mark Scheibner and Geoff Aton received 1,277 and 1,280 votes, respectively. (Returns at press time were unofficial.)

Mr. Miller is a former mayor of the Township and Ms. Nemeth is currently the municipality’s deputy mayor. Township Committee members will have an opportunity to reelect or replace Ms. Nemeth and mayor Chad Goerner at the annual reorganization meeting early in the new year.
