The Princeton Township Democratic Committee is now seeking three candidates to present to the Township Committee, which will elect one of them to temporarily fill the vacancy left by retiring Mayor Phyllis Marchand. That person will then immediately take office, but will run in the next election to fill out the unexpired term. The Township mayor is chosen by fellow Township Committee members every January and is not directly elected. Anyone who is interested in running is asked to contact Committee Chair Dan Preston as soon as possible at dan@princetondems.org, or (609) 252-0011. The Princeton Township Democratic Committee, which consists of a male and female representative from each Township voting district, should not be confused with the Princeton Community Democratic Organization (PCDO), which is the Democratic club and not the official Democratic Party organization, and actually does not have any say in filling a mid-term vacancy.
The Joint Recreation Board will meet on Thursday, November 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recreation Office Community Room. Agenda items for the meeting, which is open to the public, include discussion of the second public meeting on the pool concept plan, and the 2009 operating budget request.
The Princeton-Trenton Crisis Ministry reports that it is getting harder to meet the urgent need for food in the underserved communities of Trenton through their food pantry. Labyrinth Books is accepting the following food donations, and will see to it that the food gets to the pantry in Trenton: canned proteins (tuna, salmon, chicken, chili); shelf-stable milk (like Parmalat); peanut butter; canned spaghetti sauce/canned tomatoes; cans of vegetables, low-sodium; canned potatoes; cans of fruit, low-fructose; cans of legumes kidney beans, black beans, etc.; hot cereal (oatmeal, grits, cream of wheat); small/medium boxes of cold cereal; one-to-two pound packages of pasta or rice; jelly, jam or honey (small plastic containers); boxed macaroni and cheese; treats like Jell-O, pudding, cookies, granola bars, etc.
