The Princeton Public Library will close at 2 p.m. November 30, to prepare for its Friends of the Library benefit and the “Quintessentially Princeton Auction.” The benefit will feature a 6 p.m. talk by novelist Richard Ford at Nassau Presbyterian Church, followed by dinner and auction in the library. The benefit, a major fund-raiser by the Friends, will help buy new books and other library materials, according to Library President Leslie Burger. Tickets for the talk are $25 or $15 for students and seniors and are available by calling (609) 924-9529, ext. 280. Tickets for the dinner are sold out. “Quintessentially Princeton” auction items are available for preview at www.princetonlibrary.org. The auction will be open to the public for viewing and bidding in the Library’s Community Room on Thursday, November 29 from 1 to 9 p.m. and Friday, November 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Guests attending the benefit Friday evening will have the final opportunity to place bids.

Princeton Township Committee Monday night held an annual event honoring Township employees and volunteers who have reached tenure milestones. Employees recognized were: Mildred Fiumenero of the Administration department, for 30 years of service; Det. Sgt. M. Scott Porreca of Princeton Township Police, for 20 years; Lily Huie, of the Finance Department, and Theodore Ernst, of the Recreation Department, for 15 years; Kathryn Herlihy, of the Recreation Department, Rosanna Roberto, of the Engineering Department, and John Pettenati, of the Building Department, for 10 years; and Ivonne Clark, from Human Services, Lorraine Hollywood, from the Building Department, Lawrence Logan, from the Building Department, Darryl Hemingway, from Public Works, Christopher King, from the Police Department, and Jozef Macuda, from Public Works, for five years.

Volunteers recognized were: John Servis, of the Construction Board of Appeals, for 30 years of service; Maynett C. Breithaupt, of the Historic Preservation Commission, for 15 years; Philip Feig, of the Regional Planning Board of Princeton, May Papastephanou, of Flood Control Committee, and Carlos Rodrigues, of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, for 10 years; and M. Katherine McGavern, of the Library Board of Trustees, Avril Moore, of the Historic Preservation Commission, Henry Acselrod, of the Sidewalks & Bikeways Committee, Margaret Hill, of the Board of Improvement Assessors, William Ricigliano, of the Shade Tree Commission, and Dennis Stark, of the Regional Board of Health, for five years of service.

The Lewis School of Princeton will host its 34th Annual Holiday Concert and Tree of Light Celebration on Friday, December 7, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free. A silent auction will benefit the Lewis School’s Scholarship and Program Fund. For more information, call (609) 924-8120.

The Community Park School PTO will host a one-day book fair at Barnes & Noble at MarketFair on December 7 to raise funds for the school’s library and educational enrichment programs. Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of every sale made using a special voucher available in the lobby of the school. The event also includes a presentation by husband and wife children’s book author and illustrator Rob and Lisa Papp, at 4:30 p.m., and a performance by the Gripweeds, at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call PTO President Andrea Spalla, (609) 924-7838. The Princeton Education Foundation is seeking book donations in honor of students, family members, favorite teachers, or a special event, for Princeton High School’s new library and media center.
