HEALTHY CHOICES: Our mission is to help people choose a healthy lifestyle. We want to empower individuals by educating them in how to tap into their own wellness potential. Jean Robinson, left, and Pat Czeto, owners of Volition Wellness Solutions, believe in an integrated, holistic approach to wellness. |
At Volition Wellness Solutions, its the whole person that counts. Not just muscle groups, bones, body systems, and weight all those specific parts that so often are targeted by medical professionals and personal trainers.
You cant treat someone in a vacuum, says Jean Robinson, Volition founder, executive director, and co-owner. A nationally certified, licensed professional counselor, she strongly advocates achieving optimum wellness through a holistic, integrated approach.
Our culture teaches people to look outside themselves for answers, she continues. But ones own life events and interests result in life lessons. Its really important to learn to go within. Meditation is something that can help do that. It quiets the mind. Most of us have this chatter and static going on. Meditation helps a person to get in touch with their inner self. Mind, body, spirit, and emotions must all be in balance.
Volition Wellness Solutions, which Ms. Robinson opened in May at 842 State Road with co-owner Pat Czeto, is a holistic wellness center offering an integrated and balanced health plan blending conventional and complementary approaches.
Many Options
We offer a variety of services here, says Ms. Czeto. They include acupuncture, counseling, meditation, life coaching, nutritional counseling, yoga, Pilates, personal training, also Reiki (energy therapy), breathwork therapy, Feldenkrais, and reflexology, among others. A very popular service is Nia, a combination of dance, martial arts, and yoga, with an emphasis on making exercise fun.
These services are offered by a team of 12 licensed and certified healthcare and fitness professionals, who provide a welcoming, supportive environment for clients. Many options are available: an overall integrated health plan; participating in one or more individual services; or selecting a combination of services as a package.
Our model includes clinical assessments, individualized health coaching, and therapeutic support, note Ms. Robinson and Ms. Czeto. Our unique approach provides our clients with the most resourceful, cutting edge models of health care and cultivates an environment which allows the client to proactively create health. Our intention is to empower our clients to achieve their maximum health and well-being.
A personalized health plan, centering on mindfulness and self-care strategies, is developed based on the clients individual health and objectives. This plan is delivered by an interdisciplinary team of health professionals, working collaboratively, to optimize the clients health and well-being physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
I have a real desire to be of service to people, adds Ms. Robinson, who specializes in counseling, including marriage, family, individual, life coaching, and meditation. The idea of doing this came about as a vision when I was in graduate school. It occurred to me that there was a better approach to health care: a team-integrated approach looking at the individual as a whole.
Our entire team is looking for the best ways to benefit the client, points out Ms. Czeto, who is skilled in several areas, including certification as a Reiki master. She has completed advanced levels in integrated energy therapy and breathwork therapy.
Particular Interest
She also has a particular interest in nutrition, having formerly directed the Regional Wellness Program and Nutrition Education Committee for the U.S. Department of Agricultures Food and Nutrition Service. As Regional Director of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, Ms. Czeto directed nine state agencies.
We have a nutritionist who is a registered dietician, and a food consultant who can help people shop, organize the pantry, etc. And we can help with therapeutic life-style and diet changes for conditions such as diabetes and others.
We also have a health consultant, a registered nurse, who can assess what services will best benefit a client, that is, if they have a specific medical condition, adds Ms. Robinson. Then, we can use the integrated team approach. For example, counseling, with breath therapy, Reiki, yoga, etc. Our clinical team comes together on a regular basis to discuss how the clients are doing.
Sessions typically last an hour, with the exception of breathwork therapy, which can be somewhat longer. Breathwork therapy is a highly personalized process utilizing breathing techniques to clear out physical, mental, and emotional blocks or stresses, explains Ms. Czeto.
The body stores memories, both good and bad. By focusing on the breath, the flow of energy in the body can be increased, and then the memories can be released. Some of the memories could be something that is standing in the way of the individual having a happy life experience.
In addition to the regularly scheduled services, Volition offers a series of weekend workshops, including a wide range of topics, such as acupuncture, food awareness, life coaching, movement awareness, nutrition, personal training, stress relief, and weight management.
Targeted Groups
Also available are education and community outreach programs, including corporate seminars, senior group workshops, school presentations, and womens group workshops.
Eventually Volition hopes to establish a series of retreats, adds Ms. Robinson. We want to offer an off-site retreat where we can replicate what we have here in another setting. Taking your wellness on the road!
She and Ms. Czeto are very pleased with the response of clients, who are all ages, from all over the area, and who appreciate Volitions unique combination of services. We are hoping to introduce a new thought. Were looking to educate and empower the clients to know they can learn to be healthy. You can find a lot of these services out there, but what differentiates us is the team approach.
Were enjoying the collaboration with the other practitioners and watching clients blossom. When we implement an integrated approach and see people come back feeling so much better, that is measurable change.
Gift certificates and gift packages are available, and Volition is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 9 to 6. (609) 688-8300. Website: www.volitionwellness.com.
