Functionality and design are key to the furniture and accessories at BoConcept Design Princeton, located at Nassau Park Pavilion, 640 Nassau Park Boulevard on Route One South.
The showroom, which opened in 2009, is one of more than 250 BoConcept franchises worldwide, featuring Danish customized urban design furniture. Begun in Denmark in 1952, the company has always emphasized function and style, creating quality furniture that is modern, sophisticated, and durable. There are now 31 BoConcept showrooms in the U.S. The Princeton location is owned by Peter Chong.
“We are set apart by our design, and our ability to create the perfect shopping solution for our customers,” says Thomas Jacobsen, manager of the Princeton showroom. “We offer furniture for the entire house, with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom.”
The showroom is a handsome and spacious setting for the extensive collection of sofas, chairs, tables, cabinets, bar set-ups, entertainment centers, and home office furniture. The choices seem almost endless, and there are many options for customizing, points out Mr. Jacobsen.
Sleek and Understated
“We pride ourselves on our semi-custom format. We have many, many choices and our catalog has 170 pages. In addition, customers can create their own customized room on-line, and see how a sofa, chair, or table will actually look in their space. We also have our own in-house design specialists to help with ideas.”
Furniture is available in wood, glass, upholstery, and leather, and is characterized by clean lines, creating a sleek, understated look. Oak and walnut are favorite woods, and black-stained oak and high-gloss white are popular choices.
“Dining room tables and sofas have been in demand,” says Mr. Jacobsen. “Tan and brown shades are especially popular, as are glass tables. Some people like to see the area rugs underneath.”
Fabric choices are in abundance at the store. Many colors, often with subtle textured patterns, are available. Customers have the option of selecting whatever color they wish for an upholstered piece.
Expandable Tables
Function is demonstrated in many ways, and always within the signature BoConcept style. For example, the expandable tables operate smoothly and are often two-toned. That is because the leaf is frequently unused and could ultimately be slightly different in color, since the table may fade over time, explains Mr. Jacobsen. The problem is solved by offering the leaf in a different color.
“Our tables are expandable, functional, and good-looking,” he adds.
The furniture’s versatility is also evidenced in beds featuring storage space underneath, chairs suitable for home office or dining room, sectional sofas that can be arranged in numerous configurations, and leather wing chairs designed to fit the curve of the spine and with adjustable head rest.
“All our chairs are designed for comfort and style,” points out Mr. Jacobsen. “And the beds with storage space are an excellent choice for smaller settings without a lot of storage space. Also, most of our beds tend to be low because lower furniture creates an illusion of more space in a room. It makes the room look larger.”
Workmanship and Design
The BoConcept quality is evident in many aspects of the furniture — its workmanship and design, and its excellent materials. The leather in the chairs and sofas is butter-soft.
Area rugs, accent pillows, and contemporary artwork are also available at the showroom.
Mr. Jacobsen is pleased with the response of customers who come from all around the Princeton area. “I have also been surprised at the number of people from abroad who come in,” he says. “We have many Asian and European customers, and some of them are already familiar with the BoConcept products. I enjoy meeting the people and creating the perfect set-up for their needs. They really seem to appreciate our furniture. We offer them high quality furniture at moderate prices, and we have occasional sales as well.”
Customers especially enjoy walking through the spacious showroom and its various room settings, which provide a variety of design ideas, he adds.
