The Princeton Township Committee agreed at its Monday evening meeting to amend a resolution supporting the reutilization of the Valley Road School site by calling upon the Princeton Regional System to consider the building’s “historic significance” and “sustainability issues” in determining its future. Committee member Chad Goerner proposed the amendment, saying that a recent Historic Preservation Committee meeting had endorsed this approach.

The Princeton Environmental Commission meeting originally scheduled for September 24 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Meeting Room B of Township Hall.

The Borough has announced that University Place will be closed on Wednesday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to allow crane placement for HVAC construction work at the U-Store. In the interest of public safety, there will be both sidewalk and road closures and the area will be barricaded. The closure will be between Dickinson and Nassau Street, with a “Road Closed Ahead” sign at University Place and College Road.

Princeton Area Women for Obama will hold a fundraiser for Senator Barack Obama’s campaign on Thursday, September 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Triumph Brewing Company, 138 Nassau Street. Admission is $40 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign. Guests will receive complimentary wine and beer as well as hors d’ oeuvres. Attendees will receive free Obama bumper stickers and campaign buttons, and with their donation will automatically be entered into the raffle for an Obama tote bag. A live auction featuring prizes from local merchants and private donors will help to raise additional funds.

The Republican Association of Princeton will hold a “meet our candidates” evening on Tuesday, September 30, at 6:30 p.m. at The Nassau Club, 6 Mercer Street. Alan Bateman, 12th District Congressional candidate, Jim McSorley, candidate for Mercer County Sheriff, Cindy Randazzo, candidate for Mercer County Freeholder, and Dudley Sipprelle, candidate for Princeton Borough Council, will present their platforms and answer questions. The Princeton Regional Schools Special Education PTO will meet on Thursday, October 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the library of the John Witherspoon Middle School. The evening is planned as an opportunity to meet fellow parents and staff from across the Princeton Regional School District.

Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes and the County’s Commission on the Status of Women are accepting nominations for awards for the Mercer County Woman of Achievement and the Mercer County Young Woman of Achievement. The deadline to submit nominations is 4 p.m. on October 3. People or agencies may nominate more than one female, but one form per nominee must be filled out. Self nominations will not be accepted. The forms can be downloaded online on the Human Services’ page at www.mercercounty.org and can also be obtained by calling Human Services at (609) 989-6896.

The Princeton Adult School is still accepting registration for the Fall 2008 session at www.princeton adultschool.org. Among the new offerings are the Anne B. Shepherd Lecture Series on bioethics, getting your home organized for the upcoming holiday season, learning the basics of fine cooking, and experiencing the health benefits of group drumming.
