“SUNFLOWER GLASS”: Karen and Geoff Caldwell of Sunflower Glass Studio, located outside of Stockton, are working on many new ideas with their fused and stained glass for the Covered Bridge Artisans Studio Tour and Sale. Karen continues to develop her fused dimensional botanical panels, adding many species of fish into her work. Her newest art form is creating Birch Tree groves in fused glass. Geoff is exploring his hand-painting images that go into their collaboration of the ‘Patchwork’ Series windows. He also delights in making stained and beveled glass border treatments that compliment and finish Karen’s fused glass.

The Covered Bridge Artisans Annual Studio is a self-guided event located in Southern Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The 22nd annual holiday studio tour will take place in six professional artists’ studios in the Lambertville, Stockton, and Sergeantsville areas with 11 guest artists at the Cultural Arts Center in Sergeantsville. The event will take place November 25, 26, and 27, 2016. It will run from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m.–4 p.m. on Sunday.  more

Dining by Design, the Arts Council of Princeton’s signature annual fall gala, was held at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton Township on Saturday, November 12. This year’s theme, Eye Candy, was inspired by the art exhibit Rattle by Paul Henry Ramirez on view in Grounds for Sculpture’s West Gallery. The evening featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live modern dance, Party Boards, a multi-course dinner catered by STARR Events, and an exciting live auction. The choreography and direction of the dancers was the work of Dawn Cargiulo Berman, director of The Pennington Studio for Dance and the Creative Arts. Berman engaged dancers from the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company and Pilobolus Dance Theater to be a part of the evening. The event proved to be a major success, raising funds for the Arts Council of Princeton’s many community programs including their scholarship fund, which benefits local students.

“MY NASSAU STREET”: Over 100 completed pages like Anne Brener’s “My Nassau Street” will be on display at the Arts Council of Princeton’s Taplin Gallery as part of “Interwoven Stories,” a community-based stitching project, from October 29 through November 30.

The Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) presents Interwoven Stories, a culminating exhibition of the community-based stitching project created by ACP Anne Reeves Artist-in-Residence Diana Weymar. Visitors can expect to view more than 100 fabric “pages” — designed to look like traditional 3-holed line paper — hand-stitched with places, people, and memories. more

“OCTOBER”: D&R Greenway Land Trust will benefit from the artworks sold in their exhibit, “Our Countryside: Paintings, Photographs, and Prints by Mary Waltham,” at Chambers Walk Café on Main Street in Lawrenceville. D&R Greenway Land Trust both inspired and will benefit from the sales from Our Countryside: Paintings, Photographs and Prints by Mary Waltham, at Chambers Walk Café, 2667 Main Street, Lawrenceville, November 1 through December 30. Much of the artwork was made on D&R Greenway’s preserved lands in central New Jersey. Fifty percent of sales will support D&R Greenway’s preservation and stewardship mission. On October 23 from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Code for Princeton will present the Data and Art Hackathon at the West Windsor Arts Council.

The day-long event will include the development of civically beneficial projects as well as free workshops on how to make circuits on paper and 3D printing demonstrations. Keynote speaker Steven Fragale, researching artist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Digital Media Lab, will speak at 5 p.m. on the intersection of technology and art. At the end of the day a panel of community representatives will review the projects and offer feedback. more

Now until October 30, artist Joseph Barrett has his work on display at the Silverman Gallery in Bucks County. His exhibition, “Alluvial Years,” is a compilation of his most recent works alongside paintings done over the last 25 years. The exhibition title refers to the subjects he has painted along the Delaware Valley.   more

Studio Japan of Kingston will hold their Annual Open House, October 8-23 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Featuring traditional Japanese furnishings, TANSU cabinetry, pottery, and decorative folk arts, anyone interested in Japanese culture is encouraged to attend. The museum itself is a Sukiya tea culture inspired building reconstructed from a historic post and beam barn. Established in 1982, Studio Japan serves as the museum and conservation workshop of Ty and Kiyoko Heineken, the authors of TANSU: Traditional Japanese Cabinetry. Studio Japan is located at 110 Main Street (4505 Rte. 27 North) in Kingston, NJ.

“THE BUILT WORLD”: These works by PDS art faculty will be on display at the Anne Reid Art Gallery. On the right is, “Bonzai” by Chase Rosade and on the left is Chris Maher’s “Antlerback Chair.” The exhibit combines manipulation of natural materials by the two artists, specifically in the presentation of handmade furniture and bonsai. ILLUSTRATED LECTURE AT TRENT HOUSE: Archivist and photographer Gary Saretzky will present an illustrated lecture on 19th century New Jersey-based photographers at the Trent House Museum on September 24. Pictured here is Edward H. Stokes. He was a photographer in Trenton and is one of the subjects of the lecture. He also resided at the Trent House for many years. His son donated the Trent House to the City of Trenton to be used as a museum.

Of the approximately 3,000 different photographers who were active in New Jersey before 1900, more than 250 lived or worked in Mercer County, most of them in Trenton. In a slide lecture, Gary D. Saretzky will profile these pioneers, including Edward H. Stokes who lived in what is now the William Trent House, and discuss them within the larger context of New Jersey photography in the 19th century.  more

BARNS AND BEYOND: This painting by Lisa Walsh titled “Red Barn, Winter,” is representative of the artworks that will be on sale at the Annual Art Show and Sale at the historic Parsonage Barn in Cranbury. The exhibit features many paintings of the barns located on the site where the show will take place, as well as other Cranbury scenes.
