In response to a query about the status of the case involving Police Chief Mark Emann, Lt. Michael Henderson, and Cpl. Arthur Villaruz, who were suspended from their posts in late September for allegedly selling Township property, Casey A. DeBlasio, the Public Information Officer for the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office wrote that “Unfortunately, there is nothing that I am able to report publicly to you regarding Chief Emann’s case. I can tell you that the investigation is progressing, but there is no way to predict where any investigation may lead or how long it might take to complete. The Mayor, the Township Committee and all of the members of the Police Department have been very cooperative during this process. The department has continued to run professionally, smoothly and efficiently, with no interruption to police services.”

The Princeton Public Library Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, December 8, at 5:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room. This meeting replaces meetings scheduled for November 16 and December 21.

Rockingham Historic Site, the final Revolutionary War headquarters of General George Washington, will hold its Annual Holiday Candlelight Open House on Sunday, December 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year visitors will learn about Washington, his household members, and the guests he hosted while at Rockingham — people such as William Lee, Washington’s personal slave; Annis Stockton, who wrote poetry for the general; and James Madison, a bachelor member of Congress when it met in Princeton. Guided tours by docents in period dress will begin every half-hour (last tour at 3:30 p.m.), accompanied by 18th-century English flutes played by the Practitioners of Musick. Hot cider and cookies will be available, and the museum store will be open for shopping. A donation of $5 is suggested. Call (609) 683-7136 for advance reservations. The next Lawyers C.A.R.E. free legal clinic will be held at the Mercer County Connection on Thursday, December 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The Mercer County Connection is located in the Hamilton Square Shopping Center on Highway 33 at Paxson Avenue. Clients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis for a 15 minute legal consultation. Volunteer attorneys will be on hand to answer legal questions relating to criminal law and municipal court law, bankruptcy, family law, immigration, landlord/tenant, personal Injury, and wills and estates. Emmy Award-winning producer Donna Liu will recount her experiences in China during the Tiananmen Square protests from 4 to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 10 at the Paul Robeson Center/Princeton Arts Council, located at the intersection of Witherspoon Street and Paul Robeson Place. The presentation will be held on International Human Rights Day, the anniversary of the passage of the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. It is also the same day 2010 Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo will be awarded his prize in absentia in Stockholm. Mr. Liu (no relation to Donna) is currently being detained in a Chinese prison as a political dissident. Ms. Liu received an Emmy Award for her coverage of the event as a CNN producer. This event, organized by Princeton high school student Charles Wang and co-sponsored by the Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA), is free and open to the public.

A Peace Economy Program, “How to Beat Swords Into Ploughshares and Create Jobs in America,” will be held on Tuesday, December 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Princeton, 50 Cherry Hill Road. The main speaker will be New Priorities Campaign Coordinator Mike Prokosch and there will be a performance by the Solidarity Singers.
