Nannie Lou Alexander

Nannie Lou Alexander, 83, of Spring City, Pa., died December 18 at Paoli Hospital in Paoli, Pa.

Born in Tazwell, Va., she lived in the Spring City area for 42 years. She was a homemaker and member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Phoenixville, Pa. She was also a gardener, seamstress, and still life artist.

She was predeceased by her husband, James Alexander, two sisters, and four brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Sue Knickerbocker of Green Lane, Pa., Joyce Alexander of Princeton, and Marlena DeNicola of Pughtown, Pa.; two sisters, Hazel Mullins of Norfolk, Va., and Jessie Tate of Yardley, Pa.; ten grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 2 at Limerick Chapel, 378 West Ridge Pike, Limerick, Pa. at 3 p.m. Visitation will be at the Chapel from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

Burial will be private.

Rufus Benton

Rufus Benton, 73, of Princeton, died December 13 at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

A graduate of Penn State University, he was the founder of Chem Cut Corporation in State College, Pa., and of Benton Graphics in Hamilton Township.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Benton; two daughters, Margret Linico of Roebling and Jennifer Benton-Nyce of Greenport, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.

Under the direction of The Kimble Funeral Home, funeral arrangements will be private.

Jane Murray Hance

Jane Murray Hance, 81, of Mercerville, died December 17 at Hamilton Continuing Care Center in Mercerville. Born in Princeton, she was a lifelong area resident and 1941 graduate of Princeton High School.

She was a former employee of the Princeton Post Office. She also worked for the Princeton University Store.

She was a member of the American Legion Post 76 Auxiliary Unit in Princeton.

The daughter of the late Walter and Stella Murray, she is survived by her husband, John H. Hance; and a son, John D. of Neshanic Station.

Funeral services were private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Princeton Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Shanny Levin, 72, of Princeton, died December 19 in Brookline, Mass.

Predeceased by a brother, Samuel Goldberg, she is survived by a daughter, Eileen Levin of Somerville, Mass.; a son, Eric of Brookline; a sister, Marilyn Mandelbaum of Israel; and two grandchildren.

Services were held December 21 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, Brookline. Burial will be private.

Shiva will be at 19 Winchester Street, Apartment 707, Brookline, on December 22 from 2 to 9 p.m., December 23 from 2 to 9 p.m., and December 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Deloris Plum

Deloris Plum, 66, of Portland, Ore., died December 7 in Portland of complications from a stroke. She was born, raised, and educated in Princeton.

She had been a cellist with the Oregon Symphony Orchestra since 1976.

She was a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio. Her career as a cellist included playing in the Symphonie de Quebec and the Dublin Symphony. She also played in Australia, where she belonged to the Alexandria String Quartet and the Queensland Symphony. She was assistant principal of the North Carolina Symphony and of the Peter Britt Festival Orchestra.

Although she had lived in Portland for the last 30 years, she frequently returned to Princeton to visit her mother, Ruth Plum, a longtime piano teacher and organist who survives her.
