What do Albert Einstein, Lindi the Icelandic lamb, and two old pieces of jewelry have in common?
They all can be found at Landau’s.
While shoppers are familiar with Lindi, the store’s mascot, and the permanent Albert Einstein museum housed in the back of the store, no one appears to have realized that they lost — at some point during the past year, probably — an old pocket watch and money clip at Landau’s, the third generation, family-run shop at 102 Nassau Street.
“Ah!” said M. Poirot, smelling a delicious mystery. “How did it all begin?”
It all began one afternoon last week when co-owner Robert Landau was removing the last of two Einstein posters from the large container in which they’re kept. The first glittering object to catch his attention at the bottom of the container proved to be the watch. A second glance led to the retrieval of the money clip.
“Details, please,” Mr. Holmes tersely asked.
The watch is engraved, and the money clip has three initials. Borough police were not able to offer any leads.
“One wonders if it’s to do with the Madoff business,” mused Miss Marple.
