U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12), assistant director of the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) from 1989 to 1998 recently responded to the announcement that the U.S. Department of Energy had awarded a five-year, $390 million management contract for the Princeton Plasma Physics Lab to Princeton University and had confirmed Stewart Prager as Director of PPPL. “By awarding this contract, the Department of Energy is saying that the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is the best in the field and that the nation will look to Princeton to reassert American leadership in fusion research,” Mr. Holt said. “Stewart Prager is an ideal leader for PPPL now.”

Nominating Petitions for Board members of the Princeton Regional School District may be obtained in the office of the Board Secretary, 25 Valley Road, during the week between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Petitions must be returned to the same office on or before 4 p.m. on Monday, March 2. The annual School Election is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21. There are two, three-year term seats to be voted on in the Borough, and one, three-year term seat in the Township. All candidates are required by law to comply with the provisions of the “New Jersey Campaign Contributions and Expenditures Reporting Act.” For further information, candidates should call the Election Law Enforcement Commission at (609) 292-88700.

The Mercer County Commission on Abused, Neglected, and Missing Children and the Cherish the Children Foundation are seeking nominations to honor volunteers at the 23rd Annual “Cherish the Children Awards Banquet.” Nominations are sought for volunteers in three categories: Administrative (volunteer such as a board or advisory member who actively participates in the administration of an agency that works with children); Program (a volunteer who works directly with agency clients); and Organization (a civic, corporate or other organization that has donated services, organized or sponsored an event to benefit children, or otherwise demonstrated support for the nominating agency). The Commission and Foundation also will honor a professional who works on behalf of children in Mercer County. This person should exemplify the commitment needed to enhance the life of children in Mercer County, and his or her work should surpass the usual professional obligations and be an inspiration to colleagues.

As part of the Hulfish North project, utility work is required in Paul Robeson Place between Chambers Street and Witherspoon Street. A lane shift will be installed and all metered parking suspended. This work is tentatively scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 21, and last for approximately eight to ten weeks. The road will be open to through traffic, though it may occasionally be closed briefly during non-peak times to accommodate safe equipment movement.
