Sumner Rulon-Miller III, 73, died July 11 in the Bar Harbor Hospital after a long battle with prostate cancer.
He received an early education at Princeton Country Day School and went on to graduate at Proctor Academy in 1957. He graduated from Princeton University in 1961.
He set up his own insurance business, Rulon Miller Inc. in 1962. His experience at Proctor Academy fostered a lasting interest in education. He is the past chairman of the boards of Proctor Academy and the American School of Tangiers. In each case, he led them through trying times. He is a trustee of the Princeton Club of New York and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He has also served on many boards.
Recently his passion had been an involvement with the town of Northeast Harbor, Maine, where he had just begun serving as a selectman.
He is survived by his daughter, Tanya Rulon-Miller; his brothers, Patrick Rulon-Miller and Harry Rulon-Miller; and two grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service for the immediate family.

A memorial service for Alessandra Mazzucato will be held on Saturday, August 6 at 10 a.m. at the Princeton University Chapel. There will be a reception following the service at Dorothea’s House, 120 John Street.
