Town Talk

A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week:

“Who are your all time favorite baseball players (past or present) and what was the most exciting baseball game you ever attended?”

James: “Jason Varitek, Boston Red Sox. Best game I saw was the Red Sox versus the Rays, and the Red Sox won.”

Ben: ”Barry Bonds, New York Yankees. My favorite game was the only major league game I ever went to; the Yankees beat the Mets.”

Nick: “Manny Ramirez, Boston Red Sox. Most exciting game was when Manny hit his five hundredth home run.”

Jensen: “Derek Jeter, Yankees. Going to the grand opening of the new Yankee Stadium was really exciting.”

Jeff: “Mickey Mantle. The most exciting game I ever attended was watching my son play in his first baseball game.”

Blake: “Derek Jeter. I saw him play with the Trenton Thunder.”

Fransje: “Mark Teixeira, Yankees. Yankees Opening day 2011 game against the Detroit Tigers. The game was special because we went with my brother who was visiting from Holland. Otherwise it would have been just another game for me.”

Lynda: “Derek Jeter, I went to a Yankees Spring training game in Tampa, Florida.”

— Fransje Keur, Princeton (left) with mother-in-law Lynda McDermott, Florida, formerly of New Jersey

“Richie Ashburn, Philadelphia Phillies. Sixth game of the 1980 World Series when I saw the Phillies win the Series.”

— Joe Colduvell, Yardley, Pa

“Derek Jeter. Most exciting game I attended was a Steve Carlton no hitter back in the day. He was an amazing pitcher.”

— Jerome Andrzejewski, Hamilton

Zack: “Babe Ruth, Yankees game. It was the first and only game I have ever been to.”

Tyler: “Jackie Robinson. The best game I went to was a Colorado Rockies game.”

— Zack Okoye, West Windsor (left) and Tyler Olmstead, Princeton

“Carl Yastrzemski (past), Jason Varitek (present), both Boston Red Sox. Most exciting game was the Red Sox vs. Yankees seventh game for the [2003] pennant. The Yankees won on a walk off homerun, which made a Red Sox fan very sad but it was a very exciting game.”

— Chris Trenholm, Princeton
