At its Tuesday evening meeting last week, the Board of Education ratified a new five-year contract for Princeton Regional Schools Superintendent Judy Wilson, who has led the district since 2005. Her new $220,480 salary represents a 6.7 percent increase.

Princeton Township Police and PBA Local #387 will sponsor Princeton’s celebration of the 26th annual National Night Out. a crime and drug prevention awareness event, on Tuesday, August 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Community Park Swimming Pool. The event is open to all Township and Borough residents, who are invited to take part in a free swim and tours of the adjacent Police and Fire facilities. Members of the Police, Fire, and First Aid Squads will display and describe emergency tools and equipment, and free hot dogs and water will be provided while supplies last. Children can enjoy supervised play on a giant 24 foot inflatable slide and 1010 Dalmatian Bouncy Bounce, while adults can “dunk the cops” in a dunk tank. Toy giveaways, sno-cones, and inkless DNA child safety awareness kits will also be distributed free of charge. PAAD (Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled) and Senior Gold participants will be receiving a letter sent by The New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, describing prescription benefit changes that will take effect August 1. About 154,000 people are currently enrolled in the PAAD program for low-income seniors and disabled people. About 22,000 people are enrolled in the Senior Gold prescription discount program for people with moderate incomes. PAAD and Senior Gold program members who have questions should call the PAAD/Senior Gold hotline at 1-800-792-9745.

For its 2009 Centennial Awards the Princeton Family YMCA is seeking nominations of people in the community who exhibit outstanding commitment and leadership to environmental advocacy and stewardship, sustainability, conservation and other green initiatives, and who consistently demonstrate the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in their actions. This year’s Centennial Awards reception will be held on Tuesday, October 27, at the Greenacres Country Club. Nominations are due August 5. The Princeton-based group, Yes We CAN! will help the Crisis Ministry restock its shelves with a food drive on Saturday, August 1 at the Montgomery ShopRite on Route 206. Shoppers will be handed a list of food items before they enter the store and asked to donate at least one or two cans to help feed the hungry. Among the items sought are peanut butter, rice, dry beans, canned protein such as tuna or chili, canned fruit, and canned vegetables. Fresh produce is also accepted. Food brought from home may be donated at the store. “Just one can does make a difference,” said Yes We CAN! co-chair Liz Cohen. The first meeting of the National Research Council committee convened by the National Academy of Sciences in response to a request from the FBI for a review of its investigation of the 2001 anthrax mailings, will be held over two days starting July 30. The public meeting will run from 10:45 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 30, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday, July 31. The committee will hear presentations by the FBI, Rep.
