Jachera Kicks Off Her Campaign For the Office of Borough Mayor

Republican mayoral candidate Jill Jachera welcomed supporters to a campaign kickoff event last Wednesday, one day after winning the nomination for Borough mayor through a write-in campaign. Local Republicans were joined by some registered Democrats and others who are unaffiliated at the reception held at The Nassau Inn.

“I have lived here for 16 years and during that time I have watched property taxes spiral out of control, friends and businesses move out of Princeton, and the town/gown relationship become increasingly dysfunctional,” Jachera said, explaining her last-minute decision to run.

No Republican has run for Borough mayor in 12 years. “I recognize that I have a huge mountain to climb so I will need your help,” Jachera told her supporters.

Jachera, a retired employment law attorney who is now a part-time training consultant for employment matters, will challenge Democrat Yina Moore at the November election. Moore, a member of the Regional Planning Board, won the nomination in a surprise upset over longtime Councilman David Goldfarb.

Jachera was introduced by her husband, Fernando Guerrero. “For too many years in Princeton, there has been too little political debate,” he said. “So it is with great pride that I introduce you to a woman who has had the courage to take on a monumental challenge in an effort to restore that political debate and provide the leadership that this town so desperately needs.”
