As a longtime resident I thought I could offer some ancient history on the plans for the Valley Road Building (“Whither Valley Road? Building’s Future Remains to Be Decided,” Town Topics, June 18). As I remember there were many discussions years ago on the Township’s apparent need for either a renovation of the building, or a replacement building. In the final analysis the Township decided to build a big new building for itself. It was sold to the residents as needed to combine all of the activities within the Valley Road Building and the old Police and Court Building. At that time the expense of the new building was supposed to be offset by the sale of the Valley Road Building.
In typical fashion, only part of this plan was ever executed. So, as a result, our taxes have climbed to the point whereby all of the people I have known growing up here are forced to leave. Now I am contemplating the same.

Philanthropy is alive and well. Womanspace is grateful to the 250 businesses and individuals who supported the successful Barbara Boggs Sigmund Award event honoring Dr. Jean Kilbourne, May 22 at the Princeton Hyatt.
An acclaimed author, lecturer, and filmmaker, Jean Kilbourne, Ed.D., held the audience in rapt attention with the results of her research and work on the over-sexualized and disparaging representation of women and girls in print advertising.
We applaud the dedication of our Event Committee and honorary chair, Dr. Patricia Donohue. We thank all individual supporters and acknowledge our corporate sponsors who were so generous: Janssen, Bermuda Tourism, Bloomberg, Compass Healthcare, Caliper, DeraCom, Homasote, iXP Corp., Payment Management, PSE&G, Verizon, Times of Trenton, Pryde Brown Photography, and East Windsor Sign-A-Rama.
Special thanks to Anne Reeves and Professor Paul Sigmund who offered poignant program remarks about Womanspace and our founder, Barbara Boggs Sigmund. We applaud the excellent staff leadership of Womanspace, Mercer County’s lead agency providing emergency crisis services to domestic and sexual violence victims. Having served over 255,000 adults and children in the last 30 years, Womanspace also operates the New Jersey statewide domestic violence hotline at (800) 572-SAFE. This important work is possible thanks to great community support and the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who work daily with Womanspace.

Blue Curtain’s summer music series of six free concerts in Pettoranello Gardens began on Saturday, June 14 with jazz performances to an appreciative crowd by the Oliver Lake Trio and Columbian harpist Edmar Castaneda and his trio.
As the founders of Blue Curtain, we would like to thank all the volunteers who helped out — the Princeton Township Recreation Department, especially Katie Herlihy, for their help in putting the series together, and particularly sound man extraordinaire Don Holloway for making the artists sound the way they should.
We would also like to acknowledge that the Arts Council of Princeton is involved in scheduling and coordinating events this summer at Pettoranello Gardens, a good place to see music and dance for the next five Saturday nights.
