| A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues Question of the Week: "What type of security do you think the district should hire for the middle school and high school? (armed or not armed)?"
"It is a sad state of affairs that we have come to that point. However, if there is a real threat to the students, I think that putting security measures would be appropriate. As far as what would be appropriate, whether security persons should be armed or not, I think there should be other options such as screening for weapons before resorting to their carrying arms it is scary." Patti Repetto, Moore Street "I think that before you bring security into the schools, and especially armed personnel, there need to be a rethinking of how students and discipline are managed in the school. I feel that authority figures teachers and principles have lost the respect that they used to have, and that it's important for the parents to recognize this and to talk to their children about the serious consequences of bad behavior." Maria Shepard, Moore Street (with Isabella, 4) "I am very concerned that peace comes back to the students and that the faculty and administration are supported. As leaders of the children, the families have to stand with them they have to support them. I hope that we never come to the point that armed guards are needed that would completely deteriorate the situation." Dorothy Plohn, Library Place "It is a good idea to have guards. The kids need whatever protection that we can give them. As to whether the guards should be armed, that is best determined by the police and school officials, but I would not think so." Anthony LaPlaca, Moore Street "I think it is unfortunate to think that guards may be necessary, and they should be a last resort, not a first one. If they are required to maintain order in the schools, then they are necessary. However, they should not be armed because that could lead to regrettable accidents." Martin Kahn, Jefferson Road
