A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week: "What are your views on amending the Constitution to make same sex marriage illegal?"

"For personal religious reasons and for reasons of law, I believe they should be banned. I understand and respect peoples' personal preferences in their own home, and I don't think its anyone's business what goes on in their home; but when it comes time to a marriage, I think it is a sacred institution and should be treated that way."

JoAnn Malinowski, Bayard Lane

"Absolutely not. It is part of the founding principles of this nation that people should be able to do what they want to do as long as it makes them happy and it does not affect other citizens in a negative fashion. Same sex marriages abide by that principle and for that reason, I do not think there should be a Constitutional amendment barring that practice."

Barak Bar-Cohen, Tee-Ar Place

"No it's George Bush playing politics. The Constitution should only be amended for items vital to our national security or freedoms."

Jim Schwerin, Leabrook Lane

"Absolutely not. Marriage is a conservative, community-building institution in which to enter. Why would Bush oppose it between gay people? Why would he feel that threatens the institution to allow more people to enter into it?"

Jillian White, Spruce Street

"No. Its like how in the original Constitution, we counted slaves as less than white people and then we passed amendments to change that. This is not a good image for our country."

Tavia Danch, Main Street Café
