The Township Committee authorized an application from the Princeton Sewer Operating Committee (PSOC) at its biweekly meeting on Monday. The application was for a loan from the New Jersey Environmental Infrastructure Financing Program to support several sanitary sewer system rehabilitation projects currently under consideration in both the Borough and the Township.
In explaining the resolution, Township Engineer Bob Kiser noted that approval of the application makes it possible for the Township to take advantage of no-interest loans and grant funds that may become available as a result of the federal stimulus package. Potential Township locations for sanitary system improvements include Ewing Street from Harrison Street to Valley Road; the Gallup Road Sanitary Sewer Service Area and Hillside Avenue; Hilltop Drive, Mansgrove Road, and Woodland Drive; and Westerly Road. Borough sites include Charlton, Olden, William, and Mercer Streets. The Township’s share of the projected total costs would be $4,056,570.00; the Borough’s share would be $3,224,849.40.
The Committee also approved a resolution authorizing the Township to participate in the development of the Mercer County Wastewater Management Plan. Mr. Kiser, PSOC Manager/Engineer Bob Hough, and Regional Planning Board Lee Solow were designated to work with the County on an updated plan, which will be presented to the Committee for consideration in the next four to six weeks.
Township Administrator Jim Pascale noted that there will be a lottery on April 30 to sell repurchased housing units, which owners have been unable to sell, under the Township’s Affordable Housing Plan. The repurchase of one such unit, at 211 Brickhouse Road, was approved by the Committee at Monday’s meeting.
Meeting reports included dates for upcoming Spirit of Princeton events. Chair Ray Wadsworth announced that this year’s Memorial Day Parade will be held on Saturday, May 23; the Flag Day burning of old flags on Monday, June 15; Independence Day Fireworks on Thursday, July 2; and Veterans Day observances on Wednesday, November 11. His request that the Township Committee waive the fire permit fee for the flag burning and fireworks events was approved, and both Mayor Bernie Miller and Deputy Mayor Chad Goerner thanked Mr. Wadsworth for Spirit of Princeton contributions to the community. Mr. Wadsworth noted that the organization’s activities are supported by donations.
Mr. Miller encouraged Township residents to attend the presentation of the draft sustainable community plan on Wednesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Center. He also noted the Princeton Cemetery ceremony honoring President Grover Cleveland next Wednesday, March 18, at 10 a.m. Both mayors will attend and a contingent from Fort Dix will lay a wreath, he said, to honor “A real Jersey guy.”
The next meeting of the Township Committee will be on Monday, March 23, at 7 p.m. at the Township Municipal Complex.
