Town Talk

A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week:

“What have you read lately that has moved you and why?”
(Asked of volunteers setting up the Bryn Mawr-Wellesley Book Sale.)

Catherine of Aragon by Giles Tremlett. He writes of Catherine from the Spanish point of view. It’s a wonderful biography.”

Janet Fearon, Princeton

The Sea by John Banville. A deep look into the way a man feels and how he handles a very tough part of his life.”

Phillip MacIndoo, Princeton

The Age of Wonder by Richard Holmes. Romantic period, 18th century, scientific revolution. Especially reading about the Hershel brother and sister astronomers and their move from Germany to London and their work with telescopes is fascinating.”

Sarah Ferguson, Princeton

The Last Boy: Mickey Mantle and The End of America’s Childhood by Jane Leavy. My childhood idol. I was very touched by how well he played despite many injuries. Showed a dark side to his life and behavior with other people that was disheartening for an American hero.”

Marilyn Licciardello, Pennington

The Dogs of Riga by Henning Mankell. A very good, interesting story. After working at the book sale, it’s a good book to take your mind off the day.”

Betsy Bennett, Princeton

Kim by Rudyard Kipling. A book I read when I was a teenager and I reread it recently. It’s a boys adventure book about living in two cultures at the same time. It’s about an orphaned boy who finds a new mother and father in the Indian culture.”

Chip Jerry, Princeton
