Town Talk

A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week:

“What are your thoughts about the Princetons sharing services?”
(Asked at Saturday’s Princeton Future Meeting on Consolidation.)

“We share a lot of things. Why not public services? I don’t have all the facts but if there is a tax advantage, why not?”

Barrie Royce, Princeton

“I have a unique perspective as former chairman of the Joint Recreation Board. Shared services are different from consolidation. I am in favor of consolidation but not shared services. Currently, we share 13 departments between the Township and Borough and there are a lot of challenges.”

Tom Zucosky (candidate for Borough Council), Princeton

“We already share more services and are the only town that has a joint planning board. We are poster children for making that work.  But we also know the inefficiencies that are involved in terms of negotiating who is to pay for services, who is in charge of the services. We are and should be seen as a marvelous example of a community that shares the decision making for policies that are delivered to both municipalities.”

Ingrid Reed, Princeton

“As the chairman of the Princeton Sewer Operating committee, I think it operates very well and the tax payer is being well served.”

Dudley Sipprelle, Princeton

“I think we should share as many services as we possibly can that provide the same or better level of service and reduction of costs.”

David Goldfarb (candidate for Borough Mayor), Princeton
