FEMA has set up an office at the Princeton Shopping Center (near Ace Hardware) that is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. Area residents are encouraged to stop in for information on getting assistance for flood/storm damage. In addition, FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate has announced the launch of FEMAs new mobile web site, m.fema.gov, making it easier to access critical information regarding emergency preparedness and what to do before and after a disaster.
Princeton Public Library will partner with the Arts Council of Princeton to mark the Mexican holiday Cinco De Mayo on Wednesday, May 5 with a 5 p.m. celebration on Hinds Plaza (or in the Librarys Community Room if it rains). There will be crafts, food, and entertainment by Mariachi Nuevo Mexico, a band that blends trumpets, vihuela, Mexican bass (guitarron) and violin.
Donations for the 92nd annual White Elephant Rummage Sale, sponsored by The Auxiliary of University Medical Center at Princeton, are being accepted on Saturdays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, through May 29 at the Auxiliarys warehouse, 905 Herrontown Road. Donations of gently used household items, furniture, clothing, linens, toys, books, small appliances, jewelry, bric-a-brac, and art, will be gratefully accepted. The rummage sale will take place on Saturday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking garage at University Medical Center at Princeton, 253 Witherspoon Street. Friends of Princeton Open Space will host a talk on the return of the great American Chestnut tree to the landscape on Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m. at Mountain Lakes House, 57 Mountain Avenue. Once a main constituent of the eastern forest, the American chestnut was nearly wiped out by chestnut blight fungus, which was introduced to the U.S. in the early 1900s.
Princeton Universitys fourth Art of Science exhibit opens Friday, May 7 with a wine-and-cheese reception at 4:30 p.m. in the Friend Center Atrium and an outdoor concert at 9 p.m. that same evening in the Friend Center Quad by the orchestra rock/pop ensemble Miracles of Modern Science (MOMS), which will perform the world premiere of their new song Art of Science.
