Town Talk

A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week:

"What does Town Topics mean to you?"
(Asked Thursday at the Town Topics open house celebrating its move to 305 Witherspoon Street)

"Town Topics was part of my life from about age 7 to 60. I started by folding and counting newspapers at 15 Maple Street where the paper had its addressograph, and then, when the paper moved to 4 Mercer Street, my job was emptying wastebaskets, taking them to the back parking lots and burning them in a 55-gallon drum. I worked at Town Topics during the summers when I was in college, and then, after journalism school, I joined my father there in 1967 and worked with him up until his death in 1981. At that time, I became editor and publisher and my wife Sheila and I ran the paper until we sold it in 2001. Even my children, at times, were pressed into delivering the paper! As you can see, Town Topics means a huge amount to us."

Jeb and Sheila Stuart. Mr. Stuart was editor and publisher of Town Topics from 1981 to 2001

"It's the best thing that happened to me after my four boys. It taught me to be a writer, and I am very happy and grateful for that."

Barbara Johnson. Ms. Johnson was a long time news and features writer at Town Topics

"Town Topics is terrific. It tells us what's going on in the community and it focuses on issues. I'm only sorry it doesn't have a gossip column! It's just a great local paper and one I turn to when I want to have insight into the pulse of the community."

Vicky Bergman, member, Princeton Township Committee

"It's a great local newspaper and I am happy its offices have moved to the Township!"

Chief Mark Emann, Princeton Township Police Department

"I look forward to reading it every week about all things local — and it's really nice that it's given to us for free!"

Minnie Rhodes, Princeton
