Due to the Memorial Day holiday, recycling pick-up originally scheduled for Monday, May 28th will take place this Sunday, June 3.
The future of the old Mike's Tavern site at the corner of Birch Avenue and Bayard Lane took center stage last Wednesday as the Princeton Township Zoning Board continued its hearing on the planned headquarters for the Bank of Princeton, a start-up bank launched by a handful of local principals that recently opened its satellite branch on Chambers Street in Princeton Borough. While public comment was held at last Wednesday's session, board members decided to delay a vote on the eight requested variances until June 13, when the board will also hear plans to build Elements, a restaurant proposed for the former Stefanelli's Automotive site a block away at Leigh Avenue and Bayard Lane. Plans for the restaurant, which has common principals with the bank, will depend in part on bank parking for the restaurant's evening clientele, when the bank is closed. The board will weigh both applications at the upcoming hearing, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Township Hall. (MH)
Princeton Borough mayoral candidate Kim Pimley, a Democrat challenging incumbent Mayor Mildred Trotman in next week's primary election, will host a discussion, "The Future of Princeton Borough," tonight, May 30, at 7 p.m. in the YWCA all-purpose room at 59 Paul Robeson Place.
Restoration work will continue on Jefferson Road this week, with crews hoping to complete milling and paving the road from Hawthorne Avenue to Wiggins Street by mid-June. Sanitary sewer work along Humbert Street is largely complete and the storm sewer work should be completed by the end of May, Borough officials said last week. After storm sewer work is done the contractor will install temporary paving. The installation of a bluestone curb will be the next phase, but the contractor for the project is now anticipating that the curb pieces will not be delivered until the end of July. Crews along Greenview Avenue are slated to begin installing concrete curbs the end of next week. The sanitary sewer work there is not scheduled to begin until mid-June. Finally, sanitary sewer work along Hornor Lane will start by the end of next week and should be completed by mid-June, according to the Borough's Engineering Department. After this work is completed the contractor will return to Greenview Avenue to install sanitary sewers. At the end of June the storm sewer system should be installed on Hornor Lane. (MH)
