Sheila Brent Wooding, 66, of Lawrenceville, died November 10 at St. Francis Compassionate Care Hospice.
Born in Princeton, she was a lifelong Princeton/Lawrenceville resident.
She attended Princeton Regional Schools and was a graduate of Trenton Central High School with the class of 1960. She retired from nursing after 37 years of service with the Medical Center at Princeton, Princeton Nursing Home, and private duty nursing. After retiring she opened her own childcare center known as Tine Tines Nursery.
She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and Aaron Lodge No. 8. She was honored by the Progressive Women’s Fellowship of First Baptist Church, Eggerts Crossing, in recognition of her outstanding commitment to Mind, Body, and Spirit; and by the New Jersey Conference Branch Women’s Missionary Society.
The daughter of the late Charles “Ketch” Wooding and Margaret Steinline Wooding, and sister of the late Barbara Ann Wooding Terry, she is survived by a son, Terry Wooding, and three grandchildren.
The funeral service was November 17 at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E Church, Princeton. Interment was at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, Ewing.
Arrangements were by the Hughes Funeral Home.
Richard M. Cohn, 61, of Princeton, died suddenly November 19 at home.
Born in Indianapolis to Marjorie and Gordon Cohn, he graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and received a B.A. in economics and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Michigan.
He was president of Cohn Research, a position that culminated a long career in demographic and market research. He started his career as a post-doctoral fellow at Duke University, and subsequently held positions at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Gallup and Robinson in Princeton, and Response Analysis in Princeton.
He was a founder of the Princeton Children’s Chess Foundation. Also an avid gardener and hiker, he was a longtime member of the Appalachian Trail Conference, maintaining a part of the Trail in New Jersey.
He is survived by a son, Nicholas G. Cohn of Boston; and three sisters, Barbara Cohn of New York City, Martha Cohn of Bethesda, Md., and Jane Josephson of Carmel, Ind.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Sierra Club Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Mather-Hodge Funeral Home.
Warren H. Simmons Jr., 82, of Princeton, died November 15 at Buckingham Place, South Brunswick.
Born in Indianapolis, Ind., he lived in Plainfield, N.J. before moving with his family to Princeton in 1987.
He was a United States Navy World War II veteran, and a graduate of Princeton University with the class of 1948.
As Senior Vice President for Personnel and Industrial Relations for R. H. Macy & Co., “Sim,” as he was known, traveled throughout the U.S. and abroad implementing the establishment of new stores in their retail locations.
His inquiring mind and interest in the arts, medical science, and the communities in which he lived led to various trusteeships such as Wardlaw Country Day School in Plainfield and McCarter Theatre. He also served on many boards including the New Jersey Symphony, the Blairstown Project, and the Dean’s Advisory Board for Westminster College of the Arts. He was a past president of the board of governors of Muhlenberg Hospital, and a charter member of the National Captioning Institute.
Mr. Simmons was an avid sailor who took great pleasure cruising with his friends near the family vacation homes in Chatham, Mass. and Naples, Fla., where he also served on the City Council. A devoted member of the Princeton Class of 1948, he brought his quick wit and reverence for the University to his term as class president. One of his most enjoyable challenges was his solo appearance in Carnegie Hall conducting Skitch Henderson’s New York Pops Orchestra in a Souza composition, a result of a purposeful contribution by his wife to Channel 13.
Son of the late Warren H. Sr. and Jane Jillson Simmons, and father of the late Warren H. Simmons III, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Sullivan Simmons; a brother, Douglas J. Simmons of Cave Creek, Ariz.; his daughter-in-law Deborah Fraser Simmons; and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
Following a private burial, a reception will be held at the Nassau Club at noon today, November 25.
