Donald J. Warren, 83, of Vero Beach, Fla., formerly of Princeton and Ewing, died October 10.

Born and raised in Princeton, he attended St. Paul's School and Princeton High School (class of 1940).

He was the son of Frank and Elizabeth Whitlow Warren; his father was a longtime proprietor of grocery stores on Nassau and Witherspoon Streets.

He worked for Princeton University and Langrock's Clothing Store before joining the Army in 1942. He was a surgical technician with the Army Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1946.

After returning to Princeton he worked with his father in the wholesale produce business, counting among his clients Lahiere's Restaurant. He later moved to Ewing Township, where he joined the Utt Distribution Company, eventually establishing his own franchise, Entrepreneur Services.

An avid golfer and swimmer, he spent many summers at his family's bungalow in Manasquan, enjoying the beach and the company of his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Princeton Social Club and enjoyed their outings. He retired to Florida in 1995, where he became a charter member of the Vista Meadows Golf Club at Vista Royale.

Predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Pauline, two brothers, Francis and Alan, and a sister, Dorothy MacDonald, he is survived by a daughter, Donna Lawrence of Cherry Hill, N.J.; a son, Glenn; a brother, Walter; and one grandson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lowther Funeral Home, Vero Beach, Fla. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Trenton, at a later date.

Suzanne T. Starace, 41, of Princeton Junction, died October 14 in the University Medical Center at Princeton.

Born in Bowie, Md., she was a parishioner of St. David the King Church and an active volunteer in the community, particularly with the Maurice Hawk School Library.

Daughter of the late Robert Taylor, she is survived by her husband of 12 years, Michael J. Starace; two sons, Benjamin and Brian; her mother, Ann Burke Taylor; two brothers, Tim Taylor and Michael Taylor; and a sister, MaryAnn Taylor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 19, at 10 a.m. at St. David the King Church, 1 New Village Road West, West Windsor. A committal service will follow at the Ewing Crematory Chapel, 78 Scotch Road, Ewing.

Kathryn Phillips Schmidt, 63, of West Windsor, died October 13 at home following a struggle with cancer.

Born and raised in Rosendale, Wis., she received a B.S. in economics and a master of science in nutritional science from the University of Wisconsin.

While at the University of Wisconsin she met and married John Schmidt in 1968; they moved to Princeton the following year.

She worked as a dietician at St. Peters Hospital in New Brunswick and had dietary positions with Mercer County and the State of New Jersey.

Predeceased by her brother, Sydney Phillips, and her parents, Jesse and Marie Phillips, she is survived by her husband, John, and a son, Michael.

Miriam E. Rothman, 72, of Princeton, died October 16 at University Medical Center at Princeton.

Born in England, she came to the United States in 1949 and lived in Staten Island before moving to Princeton 20 years ago.

She was educated at Oxford University and at fashion and art schools in London and New York. An entrepreneur, she owned many small ventures including a restaurant, a jewelry business, and a professional personal assistant company in Princeton named Beck and Call.

She was a volunteer in Staten Island at the Children’s Theater, the Jewish Community Center, and the Mental Health Society, where she was the chairperson of entertainment at the annual Family Holiday Fair.

Daughter of the late Irene and Sydney Kennedy, she is survived by two daughters, Amy Covello of Princeton and Nina Fairchild of Medford; a sister, Frances Anderegg of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; and three grandchildren.

A period of visitation will be observed this Friday, October 21, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., followed by a Service of Remembrance at 6:30 p.m., at The Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Multiple Sclerosis Society, 246 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, N.J. 07755.

Frances L. Rossi, 90, of Princeton, died peacefully on October 11 at Merwick Rehab Hospital and Nursing Care.

A lifelong resident of Princeton, she graduated from Princeton High School and attended Rider College. She returned to college later in life and received her degree from Mercer County Community College at the age of 70.

An avid gardener, she also loved cooking for her children and grandchildren, caring for her cats at her home on Snowden Lane, and traveling with family.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church.

The daughter of the late Nicholas and Marie Antoinette Cevera, wife of the late Louis W. Rossi, Sr., and sister of the late Anthony Cevera, Jenny DiMassa, and Albert Cevera, she is survived by a son, Louis Jr. and a daughter, Mari Daetwyler, both of Princeton; a son, John; two sisters, Mary Sculerati of Seaside Park, N.J., and Catharine Rhubart; and three grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 15 at St. Paul’s Church. Burial was in Princeton Cemetery.

Lydia Oryshkevici

Lydia Oryshkevich, 81, of Princeton, died October 12 at home.

Born in Lviv, West Ukraine, she resided in Brooklyn before moving to Princeton.

Daughter of the late Nicholas and Carolina Holowacky Jackiw, she is survived by her husband, Dr. Joseph Oryshkevich; a son, Bohdan of New York City; three daughters, Larissa Oryshkevich of Durham, N.C., Zoya Pugh of South Brunswick, and Irina Oryshkevich of New York City; a brother, Roman Jackiw of Boston, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ukrainian Museum, 222 East 6 Street, New York, N.Y. 10003; or to WWFM, P.O. Box B, Trenton 08690; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Helen C. Johnson

Helen C. Johnson, 86, of Pennington, formerly of Princeton, died October 12 at the University Medical Center at Princeton.

Born in Trenton, she lived in Princeton for 78 years before moving to Pennington eight years ago. She was a graduate of Princeton High School and Rider University.
She was an official court recorder for the U.S. District Court in Trenton for more than 30 years, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Princeton.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine Poeller Walker and wife of the late Lee “Johnny” Johnson, she is survived by a son, Bryant of Pennington; and a daughter, Lynne Johnson of Lawrenceville.

The funeral service was October 18 at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, Pennington, with the Rev. Dr. John M. Goerss, pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Princeton, officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
