Township Committee approved a resolution to provide $550,000 for a Township reevaluation program listed as a “Special Emergency” Resolution on its Monday evening agenda. Mayor Phyllis Marchand recommended that a citizens’ committee be formed, as it has been during previous reevaluations, to educate Township residents about the process.
Deputy Mayor Bernie Miller gave his strong endorsement to Ms. Marchand’s suggestion, noting that such a committee would be particularly helpful in light of the current financial environment and its impact on real estate.
With the Committee’s approval of the resolution, Township Administrator James J. Pascale said that the reevaluation would “begin immediately.” It will take a year, he noted, so the results will not take effect until 2010.
In their reports at Monday’s relatively brief meeting, Committee members Vicki Bergman and Lance Liverman both reminded everyone of the Recreation Department’s Tuesday, October 28 meeting to continue discussions about the possible concepts and designs for the renovation of the Community Park Pool. Mayor Marchand reported that flu shots will be available on Tuesday, October 28, and Wednesday, November 5, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Building. Responding to an audience member’s question about the potential implications for the Township of Governor Corzine’s recent economic stimulus proposal, Committeeman Chad Goerner said that he had not yet seen the specifics of the plan, but would have comments once he had. Mayor Marchand noted that the New Jersey League of Municipalities had said nothing about the proposal to date, and suggested that given everyone’s preoccupation with the coming elections, it might not really be examined until after November 4. The Governor described his plan during an address to a special joint session of the legislature last Thursday.
