Town Talk

A forum for Princeton residents to express opinions about local and national issues

Question of the Week:

“What do you think would be a good use for the Valley Road building, or should it be sold or torn down?”
(The old school on the corner of Witherspoon and Valley Road, across from the Township municipal building.)

Martha: “Use the building for spill-off from the Arts Council with spaces for classes, a theater, and summer camps.” Jim: “Affordable housing! Tear down the whole building and build high density affordable housing for real, middle class people.”

Martha d’Avila and Jim Burton with daughter Clara, Montgomery

Lesley: “The building should be used as a teen hall.” Marc: “Use it as a satellite location for the hospital that is moving to Plainsboro.”

Lesley, Marc, Dara (Princess). and Jake (skeleton) Schwarzman, Montgomery

“Renovate and retrofit the building as apartments. It is expensive to live in Princeton and renting apartments is an affordable way to live here. There are not many apartments for rent in town.”

Neal McGrath, Plainsboro

“The Princeton community needs to study its real needs and what would be best for economic stability. It involves a very complex cost analysis of what it would take to renovate the building into office or medical suites, for example . Also, there is a great need for senior housing.”

John Tazelaar, Princeton

“It is a historic building, and it should be renovated. We need to keep the historic background of Princeton. To tear down stuff is awful. The space could be renovated for all kinds of things like commercial space and nonprofit groups. Also, there is a real need for seniors to have a place to live in town.”

Samira Sisson, Princeton
