Before Consolidation, Candidates Say Princeton Has Other Pressing Issues

Matthew Hersh

The specter of municipal consolidation was front and center Monday as candidates for Princeton Borough and Township governments made their appeals to prospective voters, but unlike other Borough-Township consolidation campaigns, the consensus appeared to be that if the towns were to merge, the effort would have to be resident-based, rather than government sanctioned.

Discovering Keats: A Birthday Celebration

Stuart Mitchner

I am, however young, writing at random, straining at particles of light in the midst of a great darkness, without knowing the bearing of any one assertion, of any one opinion. Yet may I not in this be free from sin? May there not be superior beings, amused with any graceful, though instinctive, attitude my mind may fall into?”

Music/Theater

Tchaikovsky, Britten, Schola Cantorum, Area Boychoirs, Illustrate Russian Pathos

Nancy Plum

For a number of years, the Westminster Conservatory Orchestra has been providing amateur musicians in the area with the opportunity to play the orchestral masterworks. “Amateur” does not mean casual or unpolished by any stretch of the imagination — each conductor of this orchestra over the years has expected the best from the players. This past Sunday’s concert in Richardson Auditorium, subtitled “Russian Pathos and the Miracles of Saint Nicolas,” was no exception; conductor Ruth Ochs programmed two works to raise the playing level of the ensemble members. Ms. Ochs is beginning her third year with the Conservatory Orchestra, and has no qualms about taking on the most challenging of the major works.
