Illuminated crosswalks on Alexander Street and Harrison Street at the D&R Canal Towpath are now in operation, Princeton Township officials announced last week. The crosswalks include pedestrian activated flashing lights embedded in the roadway, as well as lights on signs approaching the crosswalks to alert motorists that a pedestrian is crossing the intersection.
This Sunday, November 4, at 1 p.m., at the Mountain Lakes Preserve at the Lower Dam, signs outlining the history of the Princeton Ice Company will be unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony by Princeton Township Mayor Phyllis Marchand, the Princeton Township Historic Preservation Commission, and representatives of the Friends of Princeton Open Space and the New Jersey Historic Trust. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at Mountain Lakes House that will include the showing of a film about the Princeton Ice Company, which was a vital industry in Princeton Township in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Following its nomination by Princeton Township, the Princeton Ice Company was placed on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places in June, and on the National Register in August. While attendance is free, organizers have requested that attendees RSVP by calling (609) 921-2772 or by writing to bowmanmail@aol.com.
The D&R Greenway Land Trust will celebrate the preservation of its 10,000th Acre on Sunday, November 4, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Meadow Tree Farm, 306 Carter Road, Hopewell. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place rain or shine. A donation of $10 per person is suggested per balloon ride. For directions, call (609) 924-4646, or visit www.drgreenway.org.
