Grandparents Day is Sunday, September 12, and the Princeton Senior Resource Center (PSRC) and the Mercer County Council on Aging encourage all grandchildren to remember grandparents as well as those who have filled a grandparent-like role in your life. Make a call, stop by for a visit, send an email to let them know that you appreciate the wisdom and caring that they have shared with you, said PSRC Executive Director Susan Hoskins. Take some time to reminisce over family photos and letters, to share memories of times together. Play a game, work together in the garden, go fishing together. Celebrate with your parents and children together over a meal, enabling your children to appreciate the gifts of the older generation, and helping them to reach across the years. Take some time to say thank you.
The Plainsboro Public Library is sponsoring a blood drive on Sunday, September 12, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. New Jersey Blood Services (NJBS) is eager to fill the shelves of New Jerseys hospitals with much-needed blood. Eligible donors should be at least 16 years of age, in generally good health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and show a signed or photo ID. Donors over 75 years of age can also donate with a note from their physician. Persons with questions of medical eligibility should call (800) 933-BLOOD (2566), or log onto the NJBS website at www.nybloodcenter.org. Historically, only 2 percent of New Jerseys eligible donor population gives blood. The national average is 5 percent. NJBS provides blood and blood products to approximately 60 New Jersey hospitals. When it is not available locally, blood must be purchased for hospitals from other parts of the country. The Plainsboro Public Library is now in the Plainsboro Village Center, off Schalks Crossing Road. Some GPS systems still do not recognize the Village Center; the official address is 9 Van Doren Street.
