The Princeton Community Democratic Organization (PCDO) will host a public panel discussion on municipal consolidation this Sunday, September 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Suzanne Patterson Senior Center, located behind Princeton Borough Hall. The panel will include Marc Pfeiffer, deputy director of the New Jersey Division of Local Government Services, Marvin Reed, former Princeton Borough mayor, and Michele Tuck-Ponder, former Princeton Township mayor. Ms. Tuck-Ponder and Mr. Reed will discuss how conditions now might be different from when the last consolidation was attempted in 1996 in light of two recently passed bills in the New Jersey Legislature, A-4 and S-19. The identical Assembly and Senate bills create a statute that streamlines the referendum process for consolidation. Other legislation was created to form a new state consolidation and shared services commission to encourage consolidation and shared services with incentives. Refreshments will be served.
