The Princeton Fire Department is reminding everyone that next week, October 3-9, is Fire Prevention Week. This year’s theme is Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With. Twelfth District incumbent Congressman Rush Holt and Republican challenger Scott Sipprelle will hold their first public debate on Thursday, October 14, at Rider’s Sweigart Auditorium, Route 206, Lawrenceville. Doors will open at 11:15 a.m., and the program will begin at 11:45 a.m. The one-hour debate is cosponsored by the Rebovich Institute for N.J. Politics at Rider University and the Leagues of Women Voters of Hopewell Valley, Lawrence Township, and Princeton Area. A limited number of tickets will be available to the public.

The Princeton Regional Planning Board will discuss a resolution endorsing a plan to replace the Dinky with a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system at its next meeting on Thursday, September 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Township Hall. The meeting is open to the public.

A rummage sale at the University Medical Center at Princeton parking garage on Saturday, October 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will offer an assortment of antiques and vintage bric-a-brac, art, clothing, books, linens, household goods, electronics, furniture, toys, sports equipment, and more. Concessions will be sold on site, and parking will be available in the garage or in the Franklin Avenue lot. The event will take place rain or shine. The Hulfish North Project will be installing a storm sewer facility on Hulfish Street in front of the Palmer Square East entrance to the Hulfish Parking Garage. The work will begin on Monday, October 4 and is expected to be completed by Friday, October 15. Hours of construction are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vehicular westbound traffic will be detoured at Witherspoon Street, and will be rerouted to Paul Robeson Place. Vehicular traffic on Palmer Square East and eastbound traffic on Hulfish Street will be allowed to pass, with flaggers directing alternating lanes. The Hulfish Street entrance to the parking garage will be closed during the day when construction is occurring. The road and garage will reopen each evening. The entrance and exit into the Grigg’s Corner parking lot will remain open, but vehicular traffic will be unidirectional when leaving the lot. Questions can be directed to the Borough of Princeton’s Engineering Department at (609) 497-7634.
